Recently, ISO released the ISO Forward Trends Report 2022. The report is the result of the first phase of the forward-looking framework for Standardization, Environmental Scan, which aims to support the ISO community to better navigate global trends and drive ISO Strategy 2030 goals and priorities to completion.

In a world changing at an unprecedented rate, ISO has developed a forward-looking framework for standardization. The framework aims to advance the goals of ISO Strategy 2030, systematically examine the opportunities and challenges of future international standardization with a sustainable development perspective, and encourage exchange and discussion within the ISO system.

Recently, ISO released the ISO Forward Trends Report 2022. The report is the result of the first phase of the forward-looking framework for Standardization, Environmental Scan, which aims to support the ISO community to better navigate global trends and drive ISO Strategy 2030 goals and priorities to completion. The report extends the change drivers identified in the strategy, breaks them down into more specific trends, and analyzes how they relate to ISO's existing work. Based on ISO's international context and the STEEPS analysis, From society (S), technology (T), Environment (E) (E), economy, politics, (P), science (S) selected six dimensions related to the standardization of age groups, consumption, population flows, prosperity and development, technology risk, working properties change, computing technology, physical connectivity, information system, intelligent manufacturing, energy, environmental degradation, and trade, transition, biotechnology and other 15 high level development trend , and the 15 high-level development trends and the work carried out by ISO related technical institutions are introduced in detail.

The report points out that there is a high degree of convergence and correlation among development trends, because economic and social development trends are inseparable from technological progress, which is itself closely related to economics and politics. Many of the challenges humanity will face in the future may stem from the convergence of different trends, such as the convergence of biology and information technology. Many of the future trends in the report are familiar, but ISO hopes to bring this information together to provide a new macro perspective on how people view the world and the place of standardization, which in turn can inform strategy and decision-making.
